What is Ethernet Internet?
You are probably familiar with broadband Internet access over DSL, Cable Internet, Wireless ISPs, or T1 lines. Ethernet Internet uses the same protocol that runs on your Local Area Network. You simply plug your switch or router into the RJ-45 Ethernet connector installed by the service provider and you'll be connected to the Internet at broadband speeds.
Why Ethernet?
Getting your broadband Internet or point to point dedicated lines over Metro Ethernet or Carrier Ethernet gives you high bandwidths and low costs. You may qualify for either EoC (Ethernet over Copper) or EoF (Ethernet over Fiber) service. EoC uses multiple pair of ordinary copper telephone line that is likely already installed at your business. Speeds range from 5 Mbps to 45 Mbps, depending on how far you are from the carrier's POP or Point of Presence. Fiber Optic Ethernet services can provide 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet WAN Ports at a price that may be just a fraction of what you would pay for traditional SONET telco services.
